High impact strength moulding compositions are made which contain (A) 50 to 97% of a graft polymer made by polymerization of (a) 10 to 95 parts of a mixture of (i) 50 to 90 parts of styrene and (ii) 50 to 10 parts of acrylonitrile, or alkyl derivatives of these monomers, and (b) 90 to 5 parts of a polymer containing at least 80% of units of a C4-C6 aliphatic conjugated diene, (B) 0 to 92% of a copolymer having a copolymer having a K-value of at least 58 derived from (i) 50 to 95% of styrene and (ii) 50 to 5% of acrylonitrile, or alkyl derivatives of these monomers, and (c) 3 to 30% of a mineral oil with a viscosity-density density between 0.820 and 1.050, the proportion of polymerized conjugated diene together with mineral oil is not greater than 50% of the composition. The examples describe mixing latices of graft polymers of styrene and acrylonitrile of graft polymers of styrene and acrylonitrile on polybutadiene with latices of copolymers of styrene, or alpha-methyl styrene, and acrylonitrile, and adding thereto mineral oil emulsions and coagulating the resulting mixtures.
|
