Production of a biaxially-oriented polyester film with a base layer (B) and a heat-sealable cover film (A) peelable from polyester comprises (1) extrusion of an unoriented film (B); (2) stretching the film sequentially in 2 mutually orthogonal directions; (3) thermofixing the film; and (4) conventionally laminating onto film (B) a separately obtained cover film (A), this lamination occurring before the first stretching step or between the stretching steps. Production of a biaxially-oriented polyester film with a base film (B) and a heat-sealable cover film (A) peelable from a polyester and of 60-99 wt.% polyester based on 12-89 mol.% aromatic dicarboxylic acid units and 11-88 mol.% aliphatic dicarboxylic acid units comprises (1) extrusion of an unoriented film (B); (2) stretching the film sequentially in 2 mutually orthogonal directions; (3) thermofixing the film; and (4) conventionally laminating onto film (B) a separately obtained cover film (A) with this lamination occurring before the first stretching step or between the stretching steps.
