Method and device for producing a three-dimensional contour on a workpiece

Process for cutting a two- or three-dimensional edge line (2) on a three-dimensional, thin-walled workpiece (1), especially a workpiece made from a plastic film or several layers of plastic film, comprises cutting the edge line using at least two knives (7), each having a blade (10). The knives are moved only from one surface side of the workpiece on the edge line. During the cutting process the workpiece is clamped on both sides with clamping forces between an upper die (S) and a lower die (M). Each knife with its blade slightly penetrates the upper die after cutting the workpiece. Independent claims are also included for: (1) Device used for carrying out the above process; and (2) Knife for use in the above device.
