<p>The invention relates to a method for machining a groove (40) by means of a laser installation (2), said groove forming an incipient crack for subsequent mechanical sectioning, in a workpiece (12), in particular in the opening (10) of a connecting rod. Said method comprises providing a laser beam at the output of a machining head (16; 18), said beam having an oval or oblong cross section, the large dimension of which being provided in the sectioning plane of the machined workpiece. The machined groove may thus present a small width and be a through groove in the longitudinal direction over the main part of the depth thereof. Said invention also relates to a laser machining installation, arranged for carrying out said machining method.</p> |
