The invention relates to an adapter for coupling a laser machining device (1) to an object (2) for machining, whereby said adapter (12) has an input side (21), which may be fixed relative to the laser machining device (1), by means of a locking mechanism (H) and which may be fixed to the object (2), for alignment of the object (2) relative to the laser machining device (1). A scanned laser beam (4) is introduced on the input side (21), from the laser machining device (1), along a beam path to the object (2) with a reference structure (24). The reference structure (24) lies on the beam path of the adapter (12) and may be optically detected by means of the laser beam (4) scanned over the region.
