The invention provides a fracture nail for the surgical treatment of bone fractures, which comprises shape memory material in at least one section. After activation of the shape memory material, the nail forms a fixation means. Furthermore, a method for manufacturing a fracture nail is provided, which comprises a shape memory material in at least one section, wherein the nail is deformed in such a manner that a fixation means is formed, the shape formed by the deformation is held mechanically and the nail is heated for fixing the shape. Additionally, a holding means is provided for fixing the shape forming the fixation means during the heating.
