In switches for a rail system where the truck wheels rotate about substantially vertical axes, guides 10 are provided to allow linear motion of the leading truck wheels 5 and motion along a curve for all wheels during switching. The guide 10 is pivoted about a lower horizontal axis by engagement of the front wheels with a spring-loaded lever 12, to allow the truck to pass along the curve to the direction of the arrow 9. A further pivoted flap 16 may be used to swing about a vertical axis to render continuity from path 7 to path 8. Instead of pivoting the guide may be raised or lowered by wheel motion or may be moved linearly by external means. At a four-way crossing, Fig. 8, a pin 33 on the truck engages a cam 34 to rotate a disc 35 geared to discs 28 having right, left and straight tracks, the discs 28 being rotated after the leading wheels have left the straight track of the disc. On exit, the pin engages further cam discs 38, 39 to rotate the track discs 28 through chains 40 back to the original position shown. |
