A portable radio comprising a first case (2) and a second case (3) having any one of a transmitting circuit part, a receiving circuit part, and a radio circuit part, a flexible cable (11) connecting the circuit parts of the first case (2) and the second case (3), an antenna (4) connected electrically with the radio circuit part and installed at an end of the second case (3) remote from the first case (2), a ground plate cable (25) interconnecting the ground plates of the first case (2) and the second case (3), and a variable load (27) inserted in series with the ground plate cable (25), wherein stabilized communication can be ensured by performing phase regulation of the antenna automatically depending on the use conditions of the radio.
