PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the damage, the wear and the deterioration of a fixing roller rotating body, to stably fix a toner image on sheet material, to prevent an image defect such as the sliding mark of a fixed image and the jamming of the sheet material, and to simplify structure for guiding the sheet material of a thermal roller type fixing device. SOLUTION: In the fixing device for fixing an unfixed toner image formed on the sheet material and the image forming apparatus, a pressure member 2 whose surface is harder than the elastic layer 1c of a thermal fixing member 1 is arranged to be opposed to the member 1 and pressing and energizing the member 1, whereby the elastic layer 1c of the member 1 is elastically deformed to form a fixing nip. A sheet material guiding member 8 having a guiding inclined surface approaching to the carrying surface of the sheet material 5 is proximately arranged on the exit side of the fixing nip forward in the carrying direction of the sheet material 5, whereby curling tendency is given to the sheet material 5 in the fixing nip and the sheet material 5 whose leading edge abuts on the guiding inclined surface 8c of the member 8 is guided in the carrying direction along the guiding inclined surface from the exit of the fixing nip.
