PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a headrest device for a chair capable of adjusting the height of a headrest without the need of adding special force. SOLUTION: An elevating and lowering rod 15 for supporting the headrest 13 at an upper end part is fitted so as to be freely slid up and down from the upper end of a supporting cylinder erected from the upper part of a backrest 5, and a stop member 20 composed of a vertical base piece 21 and locking pieces 22 in two or more stages extended obliquely downwards from one side face of the base piece 21 is projectingly provided on the side face of the elevating and lowering rod 15. The supporting cylinder is provided with an elastic bendable supporting piece 27 for which a locking pin 29 which can be engaged with the lower surface of the locking piece is projectingly provided on a loose end part, the locking pin 29 is normally positioned at a neutral position positioned within the width of the stop member 20 and the locking pin 29 is biased to both sides exceeding the width of the stop member 20 by being elastically deformed.
