PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hoisting machine for an elevator capable of preventing water containing grease of a bearing and oil separated by secular change of grease from flowing out on a brake braking face when the water leaks from an oil seal part and obtaining stable brake holding force by draining it to the outside before it flows out on the braking face. SOLUTION: This hoisting machine for the elevator is provided with a rotary body 7 formed integrally with a sheave 7e and having a braking face at the inner periphery, a braking machine provided on an inner side of the rotary body and having a braking piece 6 pressing the braking face 7a, a rotary shaft 10 provided at the center of the rotary body, the bearings 8a, 8b supporting the rotary shaft rotatably, oil seals 11a, 11b provided at ends of the bearings to prevent lubricating oil of the bearings from leaking, and a first channel 7c which is provided in the circumferential direction in a part where a side face 7b on a braking machine side of the rotaty body and the braking face 7a cross and in which oil leaking from the oil seals and streaming down on the side face 7b of the rotary body 7 flows.
