PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a electrifying roller excellent in uniformity of electrifying by increasing the contact efficiency of a electrifying member to a body to be charged and reducing unevenness in contact by making the cells of sponge rubber fine and uniform. SOLUTION: The electrifying member is used in a electrifying method in which a voltage is applied and a surface of a body to be charged is charged. The electrifying member and the body to be charged move with a speed difference and conductive particles are present in at least a nip part between those. The electrifying member is a conductive sponge roller obtained by coating the peripheral surface of a conductive shaft with only a conductive rubber layer, wherein the conductive rubber layer is formed by curing and foaming unvulcanized rubber mixed previously with 1-10 pts.wt. of a metallic salt of a fatty acid based on 100 pts.wt. of the rubber.
