A thrust bearing arrangement comprising a bearing member 12 and a housing 11, the bearing member 12 having an inner and outer bearing surface 20,19 for engaging respectively with an inner and outer counter-surface 24,18 associated with the housing 11 so as to allow relative rotation of the bearing member 12 and the housing 11 about a central axis. The arrangement is further being provided with a self-adjustment means to reduce and thereby adjust the axial separation of the counter-surfaces, 24,18 so as to urge the counter-surfaces 24,18 into engagement with the respective bearing surfaces 20,19 as progressive wear occurs between the bearing surfaces 20,19 and counter surfaces 24, 18. The counter-surfaces 24,18 are preferably provided by a bearing liner 17,23, while the self-adjustment means is preferably a free wheel clutch arrangement incorporating a coil spring 28. The arrangement is of use in couplings between carriages of trains, trams, buses etc. |
