PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inkjet printer which is equipped with a function capable of accurately grasping clogging of a nozzle by correctly detecting the presence/absence and positional relationship of an ink mark block for checking the clogging of the nozzle, through the use of a reflex optical sensor. SOLUTION: A carriage 1 is equipped with an optical signal level means 2 for detecting a variation of an optical signal level for one pattern length of a printing pattern, and a position identifying means 3 for identifying a position of the variation of the optical signal level, which is detected by means 2. An optical signal, which is detected by the means 2, is converted into a digital signal from an analog signal by an A/D converter 4, so as to be fed to a controller 5. The controller 5 identifies the number and positions of the nozzles wherein the clogging occurs, in accordance with the number of the printing patterns for one pattern length known in advance, and the position of the variation of the optical signal level, which is identified by the means 3.
