PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an AC type PDP device excellent in linearity and capable of performing a pseudo-interlace operation. SOLUTION: In an AC type PDP with trio array type pixels, the pseudo-interlace operation is performed with centers of light emission of respective discharge cells DC belonging to one display line alternately shifted toward opposite directions. Transparent electrodes 21, 22 having different effective electrode areas are alternately joined to respective metal electrodes 1 of a first electrode X1 and a second electrode Y1 in a first direction h. In a certain discharge cell DC, the transparent electrode 21 joined to a first portion 11 and the transparent electrode 22 joined to a third portion 13 are opposed to each other with a discharge gap 3 in between. In a discharge cell DC adjacent thereto, on the contrary, the transparent electrode 22 joined to the first portion 11 and the transparent electrode 21 joined to the third portion 13 are opposed to each other.
