PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a building for storing radioactive substances which enables the efficient natural ventilation in the building and the improvement in its workability for execution and its earthquake resistance and to provide a method for ventilation in the building. SOLUTION: The building 1 for storing the radioactive substances is located above a foundation 10 formed in the ground G and is equipped with a main body 20 of the building for storing the radioactive substances A accommodated in casks 41 and seismically isolated devices 30 located between the foundation 10 and the main body 20 of the building. An under-floor space X for running outside air is formed between base concretes 11 of the foundation 10 and floor boards 211 of the main body 20 of the building by cradle parts 11 of the foundation 10 and the seismically isolated devices 30. Air inlets 215 for introducing the outside air into the main body 20 of the building by way of the under-floor space X are formed on the floor boards 211.
