PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeding device capable of achieving a high handling function by constituting a mechanism allowing a leading end of a sheet to abut on either of a paper feeding roller and a handling roller and forming the handling roller as a driven roller following the paper feeding roller with predetermined rotation resistance irrespective of amount of sheets stored in a paper feeding cassette. SOLUTION: When the amount of sheets stored in the paper feeding cassette is close to the maximum loading amount and is large, the leading end of the conveyed sheet is abutted on a surface of the handling roller as shown by arrow mark Y1 in the drawing. When the amount of sheets stored in the paper feeding cassette is substantially half of the maximum loading amount, the leading end of the conveyed sheet is abutted on the surface of the handling roller as shown by arrow mark Y2 in the drawing. Furthermore, when the amount of sheets stored in the paper feeding cassette is small, the leading end of the conveyed sheet is abutted on the surface of the handling roller as shown by arrow mark Y3 in the drawing.
