PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing device from which a paper can be easily pulled out even when the paper gets jammed. SOLUTION: In the printer having an automatic gap adjusting mechanism to automatically adjust a platen gap in accordance with the kind of a paper selected, a CPU judges whether a jam has occurred during printing (Step S100). When the jam has occurred, the CPU judges whether the paper is a cut sheet or not (Step S101). When the paper is a cut sheet, the CPU judges whether the cut sheet is detected or not by a second sensor (Step S102).
