PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thumb turn spindle excellent in operational reliability without increasing size of a device. SOLUTION: The thumb turn spindle has an operating shaft 4 which is mounted in a thumb turn holder 1 in a manner capable of idling, and has its rear end connected to a dead bolt operating section 3 of the lock device 2, and a plate-like lug piece 5 mounted on a front end of the operating shaft 4. The lug piece 5 has a pair of hinge pieces 6 which are protruded on one side thereof and rotatably constricted by a lug fixing member 7 fixed to the front end of the operating shaft 4, whereby the lug piece 5 is mounted on the front end of the operating shaft 4 in an erecting/falling manner. Further a compressed spring 8 is interposed between the lug piece 5 and the operating shaft 4 so as to press a front surface of the lug piece 5 and an end face of a hinge piece forming side frontward, to thereby hold fallen and erected positions of the lug piece 5.
