A data management system comprises at least one central data bank and a product data management (PDM) system. At least one interface (16) is designed for a tool (2) for developing control appliances and has at least one module (18) for a connection application and/or an operating surface (31). The PDM system (14) centrally manages data to at least one control appliance, in which the data comprises at least variables and parameters of the control appliance software, and the data can be filed in the central databank (12). An independent claim is also included for a data management method with a data management system.
