A lumen tissue state evaluation device wherein the digital image data on a plaque lesion of a blood vessel, obtained by using an ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus, is computer-processed and the tissue state of the plaque lesion is quantitatively evaluated. Using the pixel data on the plaque lesion area, the center vicinity of the lumen and the extravascular portion directly out of the blood vessel periphery, a calculation is performed on one or more of predetermined indexes relating to the relative brightness of the plaque lesion area in respect to the center vicinity of the lumen area and the extravascular portion directly out of the blood vessel. According to the predetermined indexes, the tissue state of plaque lesion area is classified.
