PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal recording material excellent in image preservability and scratch resistance.

SOLUTION: In the thermal recording material produced by successively laminating a protective layer on a recording layer containing a colorless or light colored basic colorless dye and an organic color development agent as main components, the protective layer has a binder content ratio of not less than 0.75 to the pigment in the protective layer and the protective layer contains a lubricating agent having a particle diameter ratio of not less than 1.0 to the coating layer thickness. Preferably, the lubricating agent has a content ratio of not less than 0.5 to the pigment in the protective layer.
