<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device wherein alignment of a liquid crystal can be satisfactorily stabilized and display quality equal to conventional display quality or more can be obtained with a comparative simple constitution in which an alignment controlling structure of axisymmetric alignment is provided only on one substrate, in the liquid crystal display having a plurality of axisymmetric alignment domains in a pixel. <P>SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display having a first substrate, a second substrate and a homeotropic alignment type liquid crystal layer provided between the first and the second substrates and provided with a plurality of pixels respectively comprising first electrodes formed on the first substrate, second electrodes formed on the second substrate and the liquid crystal layer provided between the first and the second electrodes, the first electrode has at least two opening parts and at least one notched part formed in a prescribed position, at least two liquid crystal domains respectively showing axisymmetric alignment are formed in the liquid crystal layer when at least a prescribed voltage is applied and a center axis of the axisymmetric alignment of the respective liquid crystal domains is formed within the opening part or in the vicinity thereof. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
