<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lengthen the service life, by increasing stability, by improving sealability of a packing device of a plunger type pump. <P>SOLUTION: This packing device of the plunger type pump is composed of a plunger and a cylinder. A U packing 22 is arranged in a sliding space between the plunger 8 and the cylinder 7. The packing ground 29 is installed in the cylinder 7. A stepped small diameter part 29a of an end part is butted against a butting part 7e in the cylinder, to fix the U packing 22. A U packing pressing-down member 23 and a leakage liquid recovering ring 24 are also arranged between this stepped small diameter part 29a and the U packing 22.
