PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To absorb a shock in a secondary collision even in the case of a vehicle with a narrow space in the periphery of the knees of a driver. SOLUTION: This column shift device is provided with a bell crank 25 rotating around a support bolt 23 to a steering column 5, interlocking with a shift lever 17 provided on the steering column 5. A shift cable, one end of which is connected to a transmission, is connected at the other end to an end part 25c projected to the lower side of the car body on the opposite side to the end part connected to the shift lever 17 of the bell crank 25. A thin wall part 25d is provided between the support bolt 23 and the projected end part 25c in the bell crank 25, whereby in the case of the head-on collision, when the knees N of the driver secondarily collide with the projected end part 25c of the bell crank 25, the bell crank 25 is bent and deformed taking the thin wall part 25d as the starting point to thereby absorb a shock.
