PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow reconstruction by using a symmetric halftone dot resulting from encoding an asymmetric dot, and using a binary resolution converter as a binary decoder. SOLUTION: The method first carefully designs an asymmetric halftone dot for a specific printer and then utilizes a halftone dot encoding algorithm, which encodes the asymmetric halftone dot into a resolution-symmetric format. The asymmetric halftone dot is designed to satisfy the requirements of a raster output scanner electronic circuit, that is, designed to be insensitive for rotation, to minimize its dot size, hole size, appendage, and cavity, and to improve reproducibility using a midtone hybrid screen.
