An intra-oral imaging system (100) has an imaging device (102), a processor (104), and a head mounted display (HMD) (106). The HMD (106) may be worn by an operator (112). The intra-oral imaging system (100) displays a computer-generated image in the HMD (106) which displays a tangible object (108) in an operator's view. The computer-generated image may be projected in the field of view of the operator (112).
