PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wiper device controlling method capable of sensing certainly the position of a wiper arm using a less number of sensors. SOLUTION: The wiper device controlling method is configured so that the point of origin O to reset the pulse count value to the reference value is provided between the upper inverting position B and the lower inverting position A. An accommodation position C is provided below the lower inverting position A, and below the accommodation position C, the lower limit position X is provided where the motion of a wiper arm is restricted mechanically and the pulse count value shows the specified value. When stopped between the upper inverting position B and the point of origin O, the wiper arm is started moving toward the point of origin O, and at passage of the point of origin O the pulse count value is reset to the reference value. When stopped between the point of origin O and the accommodation position C, the wiper arm is started moving toward the point of origin O or the lower limit position X, and at passage of the point of origin O or reaching the lower limit position X, the pulse count is reset to the reference value or the specified value.
