PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for determining a printing operation state capable of determining various kinds of operating states of the printer accurately by the detection of a printed state of a surface of the printing medium, reflected on the intensity of reflected light, such as the detection of a printing pattern for Bi-D adjustment by avoiding or minimizing an influence of cockling which can occur on a printing medium, a printer and a method for determining the printing operation state. SOLUTION: In the system for determining the printing operation state, the operation state of the printer is determined by using the printing medium wherein a printing pattern for determining the printing operation state reflecting the operation state of the printer is printed by using only an ink ejection part, on an upstream side with respect to the center of a print head in the direction of carrying the printing medium, among a plurality of ink ejection parts formed in the print head of the printer.
