PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a marking die for punch presses and a marking method by which writing errors are eliminated and marking marks are not left and the constitution of which is simple and operable by the NC control procedure of a punch press. SOLUTION: A marking pen 36 is provided freely attachably and detachably through a holder 37 in the lower end part of the punch die P<SB>M</SB>. The punch die P<SB>M</SB>has a punch body 31 which is provided freely slidably in a punch guide 30, a punch head 32 or key members 42, 43 which are provided in the upper end part which is pressed with the ram of the punch press, a stripper spring 33 which is provided between the punch head 32 or the key members 42, 43 and retainer collars 22, 23 and the marking pen 36 which is provided in the lower end part of the punch body 31. The marking pen 36 is housed in the punch guide 30 in the upper limit position and marking is made possible by being brought into contact with a work W in the lower limit position.
