<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To keep a ratio between the linear widths of a toner image in the main and sub-main scanning directions constant by altering the processing conditions or optical conditions of an image forming apparatus, such as a digital copying machine or a printer, which forms a latent image on an image carrier through light-beam scanning and forms a toner image with a developing means. <P>SOLUTION: The electrophotographic image forming apparatus has the image carrier, a charging means, a scanning exposure means, and the developing means. The image forming apparatus is characterized by having a control means which forms a linear toner image on the image carrier in the main and sub-main scanning directions, obtains information about linear widths in the main and sub-main scanning directions detected by a linear width detection means for detecting the linear widths of the toner image, calculates a ratio between the linear widths in the main and sub-main scanning directions from the information about the linear widths detected, and controls the charging means based upon the result of the calculation. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
