PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical member having little occurrence of scratch defects during continuous molding and having excellent heat resistance and rigidity. SOLUTION: The optical member is prepared by using a transparent resin having≤200 ppm chlorine atom content, the resin which is an aromatic polycarbonate resin having an aromatic component expressed by general formula [1] and a specified dihydroxy component. As the aromatic polycarbonate resin has high light transmitting property and excellent heat resistance and rigidity and causes little scratch defects during continuous molding, the resin is suitable for an optical member such as a lens, prism, optical fiber, optical film, liquid crystal display, diffusing plate in a backlight system of a liquid crystal TV set, and light guide plate used for a scanner.
