PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide steel for high temperature carburizing in which the coarsening of crystal grains can be suppressed even at a high temperature of≥1,000°C, and which can be subjected to surface effect treatment such as carburizing. SOLUTION: The steel for high temperature carburizing has a composition comprising, by mass, 0.10 to 0.30% C, 0.05 to 1.00% Si, 0.05 to 1.00% Mn, <0.03% P, <0.02% S, 0.03 to 0.25% Ti, 0.005 to 0.050% Al and <0.008% N, and also, satisfying 0.03%≤Ti-2.49S-4.42N≤0.17%, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities.
