PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a growing material for marine seed plants capable of sowing the seeds in a wide range without flowing them away and elevating the germinating rate, and the method for producing such material. SOLUTION: This growing material for the marine seed plants is a granulated material 30 obtained by mixing the marine seed plant's seeds 29, viscus soil containing dredged soil, a solidifying material consisting mainly of gypsum and a water soluble polymer. Since the granulated material 30 can be made as having a higher specific gravity of about 2.3 larger than that only with the seeds (approximately 1.3), its possibility of being lost by flowing after throwing them in a sea area is low, and it is possible to bury the granules at a depth suitable for the germination of the seeds. It is possible to keep an anaerobic condition suitable for the germination of the seeds in the granulated material 30, and be able to supply nutrition by the mud formation of the dredged soil after the germination, and also since the seeds are covered with the viscus soil, they are not eaten by animals living at the bottom of the sea, and it is possible to elevate the germination rate.
