PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can surely prevent image loss of a breast wall part and formation of omission parts near the breast wall part even when a film size is changed or there is an error in size dimensions in the case where a mammography image is formed to a film, and to provide an image formation method. SOLUTION: In the image formation method, the film is loaded at a film loading part. The loaded film is secured to a film guide and positioned. The film at the film loading part is transferred so that a film side secured to the film guide maintains a predetermined positional relation to an exposure part. At the time of forming a latent image corresponding to mammography image information by carrying out exposure to the transferred film, the breast wall part of the mammography image information is formatted to be located at the film side secured to the film guide. Image formation is carried out to start image writing from the side of the film side, and the film to which the latent image is formed is developed and visualized. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
