PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicular automatic transmission having improved efficiency and controllability by minimizing sliding resistance due to a seal ring. SOLUTION: The automatic transmission 1<SB>1</SB>comprises a planetary gear unit PU<SB>1</SB>for reducing the input rotation of an input shaft 12 to be output, a third brake B-3 and a fourth brake B-4 for locking sun gears S2, S1 of the gear unit PU<SB>1</SB>, a first clutch C-1 and a third clutch C-3 for freely transmitting the reduced rotation through the gear unit PU<SB>1</SB>, and a planetary gear unit PU<SB>2</SB>having sun gears S3, S4 to which the reduced rotation is transmitted via the clutches C-1, C-3. In the automatic transmission 1<SB>1</SB>, the sun gears S2, S1 are connected to hub members 72, 89, respectively, which are laid on a boss portion 3b in sequence in a relatively rotatable manner and fitted to each other, both brakes B-3, B-4 and hydraulic servos 60b, 60a are arranged on the axial front side of the planetary gear unit PU<SB>1</SB>and hydraulic servos 20, 40 of both clutches C-1, C3 are arranged on the axial rear side thereof.
