PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a composition free from the defects of its standard composition, imparting a treated keratin fiber with a specific optical effect and containing at least one reducing agent and at least one electrically conductive polymer, and provide a method for the treatment of keratin fiber using this composition. SOLUTION: The composition contains a cosmetically permissible medium containing (a) at least one reducing agent and (b) at least one electrically conductive polymer preferably containing at least one repeating unit having a structure selected from aniline, pyrrole, thiophene or bisthiophene, furan, p-phenylene sulfide, p-phenylene vinylene, indole, aromatic amide, aromatic hydrazide, aromatic azomethine and aromatic ester. The method for the treatment of keratin fiber, especially human keratin fiber, particularly hair comprises (a) the application of the composition to wet or dry keratin fiber and the leaving of the fiber for a period sufficient for shaping, (b) the rinsing of the fiber and the application of an oxidation composition for a period sufficient for fixing the shape, (c) optionally the rinsing of the fiber, (d) the washing and rinsing of the fiber and (e) the drying of the fiber or the leaving of the fiber to dryness.
