PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for controlling a transmission, which can suppress the effect of the speed changing of the transmission on the operability, and also can suppress the deterioration of the speed changing responsiveness under the circumstance that the speed changing of the transmission has no effect on the operability. SOLUTION: The apparatus for controlling the transmission, which is provided in the power transmission path from a power source to wheels and is capable of changing the speed changing ratio of the transmission, comprises a shock determining means for determining whether or not the shock caused by the changing of the direction of the power transmission in the power transmission path is transmitted to the transmission during carrying out the speed changing in the transmission (steps S1, S2, S3), and a speed changing detail control means for determining the details of the speed changing in the transmission (steps S4, S5) based on the result judged by the shock judging means (steps S1, S2, S3).
