<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer electrolyte fuel cell with utilization efficiency of cell reaction gas improved with a simple means. <P>SOLUTION: The fuel cell is provided with an MEA-gasket junction body 19 equipped with an MEA having a polymer electrolyte film, a pair of catalyst layers pinching the polymer electrolyte film, and a pair of gas diffusion electrodes 7 arranged at an outer face of the pair of catalyst layers to be positioned inward from a peripheral edge of the electrolyte film as well as a pair of gaskets 6 arranged at a peripheral edge of each side of the MEA with a gap 109 between the pair of gas diffusion electrodes 7, and a pair of conductive separator arranged so as to pinch the MEA-gasket junction body 19 with a groove-like flow path for the cell-reaction gas formed on its inside face so as to pass over the gasket 6, the gap 109, the gas diffusion electrodes 7, the gap 109 and the gasket 6 in turn.
