PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation system or the like capable of presenting suitable movement roots according to various purpose criteria. SOLUTION: In the navigation system, a root extraction processing section 206 specifies link information corresponding to a target criterion assigned by purpose target assigning information 205 (i.e., link information representing segment distance values compensated with respect to travel purposes) from basic map data 202, and then extracts a travel root, connecting a start point to a goal point which are assigned by target segment assigning information 204, from the specified link information and node information (of the basic map data 202), and generates root candidate data 207 representing the extracted travel root. In addition, a root decision/display processing section 208 decides on one travel root from a plurality of travel roots represented by the root candidate data 207, and displays the decided travel root as a travel guidance root.
