摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a protective layer having a constant thickness on a plastic optical fiber. SOLUTION: A primary coated optical fiber 12 is formed of PMMA and consists of a core part of an optical wave guide and a clad part which covers the core part. Resin 22 is coated on the primary coated optical fiber 12 by passing the optical fiber 12 through a resin pot 21 and the resultant fiber is transported to a tank 31 after adjusting the outer diameter with a die 23. Warm water 32 is filled into the tank 31, the resin 22 is solidified and the protective layer is formed. When the travel speed of the optical fiber 12 is set to V (cm/min), the relationship between the distance L (cm) between a die outlet 23a and a warm water level 30 is set at 0.05V≤L≤0.33V.
