PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary variable resistor in which an adjusting groove of an operating shaft is discriminated easily even when the variable resistor is a small-sized semifixed type. SOLUTION: The rotary variable resistor is provided with: an insulating substrate 11 on which a resistor 12 is formed; a slider 10 which relatively rotates and moves on the resistor 12; and a rotating body 8 which is integrated with either one of the insulating substrate 11 and slider 10 so that the body 8 may become rotatable and has an adjusting section 8c composed of recessed and projecting sections. The resistor is also provided with a case 1 which houses the rotating body 8. The adjusting section 8c is made easily distinguishable by improving the visibility of the section 8c by marking by marking the recessed sections or projecting sections of the section 8c.
