PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To alleviate occurrence of luminescence failure in an organic EL element. SOLUTION: In this organic EL element 200 formed by laminating an anode layer 20, a hole transport layer 30, a luminescent layer 40, an electron transport layer 50, and a cathode layer 60 on a substrate 10 in this order, the film thickness of the hole transport layer 30 is thickened in order to practically cover foreign materials 70 adhering onto the anode layer 20 with the hole transport layer 30. Thereby, the anode layer 20 and the cathode layer 60 are prevented from being short-circuited by being brought into direct contact with each other, and luminescence failure of a pixel caused by short-circuiting is alleviated.
