PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a door from colliding with an obstacle in a doorway of an elevator. SOLUTION: A projector 4 is provided under the doorway pillar of a car and a receiver 6 is provided at an upper board 2 of the car, and the beam light is passed between them. When the beam 5 is blocked off by an obstacle such as a human body or the like, existence of the obstacle is detected. When the existence of the obstacle is detected before the door 3 of the car starts to close, the door 3 of the car is blocked. At the same time, an announcing device 7 announces that passengers move away from the door 3 of the car. When the device does not detect the obstacle, the door 3 of the car normally closes.
