The invention relates to a multi-layer, tubular foodstuff casing based on a thermoplastic plastic, comprising at least one polyamide and/or copolyamide-based layer. The outer layer of the casing contains at least one organic substance, which is intermittently distributed in the layer, producing a pigmentation. The outer surface of the casing has a matt appearance and resembles a natural intestine or a cellulose-fibre intestine. The casing is preferably used as an artificial sausage casing.
