Manufacture of multi-layered latex-free pile fabrics, e.g. tufted carpets, uses intermediate structured films to penetrate and bond layers under pressure

The layers of a multi-layered fabric, e.g. primary and secondary backing of a tufted carpet, are bonded by intermediate structured layers by applying pressure or heat and pressure. The bond can be permanent or removable for recycling. The structured layer can incorporate heating or cooling capillaries, sensors, anti-static measures, or fire retardants. An independent claim is also included for fabrics made in this way. The intermediate layers can be multi-functional and can be continuous or partial, e.g. a net or grid. The fabric can be double sided and any number of layers can be involved.
