Tertiary amines are prepared by reacting an olefin or mixture of olefins with carbon monoxide, hydrogen and at least a molar amount of a secondary amine in the presence of a catalyst comprising a cobalt carbonyl/tri)hydrocarbyl) phosphine complex in which each hydrocarbyl radical contains at most 18 carbon atoms using a pressure of between 7 and 210 atm. gauge.
