1,150,832. Surface saponification of cellulose acetate. DEUTSCHE RHODIACETA A.G. 23 March, 1967 [24 March, 1966], No. 13688/67 Heading B5B. Cellulose-2¢-acetate textile material is surface saponified by wetting the material with water and then treating it at room temperature in a solution of an alkali-metal hydroxide of alkali content (based on the weight of the material) gradually rising in two or more stages from 1% or less to 2%, raising the temperature to 80-100‹ C. and treating the material at this temperature with the solution with an alkali content of 2% rising gradually, or in stages, to 4-5%, the total treatment time in the said hot solution being sufficient to cause surface saponification only, and the weight ratio of solution to material being treated being between 1 : 3 and 1 : 10.
|
