PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve defective sorting ability of a magnetic head before being assembled into a slider. SOLUTION: The method for examining a reproduction element of a magnetic head to be measured uses magnetic-field generation means. The method includes a step of generating an AC magnetic field by the magnetic-field generation means, the AC magnetic field having a frequency in a range equal or more to a magnetic field detected by the reproduction element when the magnetic head to be measured is actually used as a product; a step of measuring an output signal from the reproduction element with changing a position of the magnetic-field generation means with respect to the reproduction element in a direction including a lateral direction of the reproduction element; and a step of removing effects of intensity distribution of the magnetic field generated by the magnetic-field generation means from the measurement results.
