PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve system of an internal combustion engine, capable of reducing manufacturing cost of a piston, in its turn, capable of reducing a manufacturing cost for the whole valve system, while improving reliability by preventing trouble such as damage of the piston for switching an operation state. SOLUTION: A low speed cylinder part 16 and a high speed cylinder part are juxtaposed on a suction driven rocker arm 11. A low speed driving rocker arm 32 or a high speed driving rocker arm is selectively pressed in response to a piston position slidingly arranged in the respective cylinder parts 16. After dividing the piston of the low speed cylinder part 16 into two parts of a small diameter lower piston 18a for receiving hydraulic pressure and a large diameter upper piston 18b pressed to the low speed driving rocker arm 32, the upper piston 18b is manufactured by a raw material having rigidity higher than the lower piston 18a.
